 SAINT  POET

Historically in Iran, a country where criticism often results in severe consequences and even death,
poetry becomes the perfect vehicle for freedom of expression by using subtle metaphors and double-entendres. Thus, poets are transformed into national heroes. Although unheard of in the west when a poet  passes away, thousands of people showed up to mourn at Ahmad Shamlou's funeral in July of 2000 in Iran.

While paying tribute to  Iran's national heroes, this is
my homage to the free, unshaken soul of the poet.
